Summary Draft 2

Daubach (2019) states the challenges Southeast Asia faces in regards to transiting towards clean energy and how to speed up the use of it. It is discussed that Southeast Asia is a diverse region with economies growing at different speeds. Therefore, a single approach will not be adequate in progressing towards a clean energy future, customized solutions are advised. The article mentioned that in order to proceed with the transition, usage of "low-carbon technologies" needs to be increased. However, some methods suggested like the use of nuclear fusion are not affordable for Singapore. In addition, it is observed that countries like Singapore consume a large amount of energy, and need to look at “new energy sources”, together with lessening the usage of energy whilst preserving the same habits. It is believed that Southeast Asia will be at risk of global warming if coal usage is not being cut off completely. Daubach states that nuclear fusion is not suitable for Singapore, in...

Summary Draft 1

According to the article “How can Southeast Asia’s clean energy transition be sped up?” (2019), it is noted that a single approach to reducing emissions will not be adequate in progressing towards a clean energy future, countries will have to customize solutions to fit their needs. In order to proceed with the transition, we need to consider how usage of energy can be lessened, whilst preserving the same habits and also increasing the usage of low carbon technology. However, some methods suggested in the article are too costly for countries like Singapore in order to meet the Paris Agreement by 2030. If ASEAN cannot cut off coal usage, it will be in risk of global warming, leading to an increase of carbon emissions. It is also important to act upon the opportunity to build a strong foundation in energy improving lives along with the growing economy. How can Southeast Asia's clean energy transition be sped up? Self-introduction

Subject: Self-introduction To Brad Franklin Blackstone Dear Mr. Brad, My name is FAN QIANZI, and I am writing to introduce myself to you as a student in your Effective Communication class. I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a Diploma in Clean Energy. During my 3 years of learning engineering, I found that it is very enjoyable for me to solve the problems and design the project with my friends. We can apply our knowledge to the hands-on work and find out more beyond the class. I think my strength is I can communicate with others in English fluently compared with my peers in China. For example, when I was in Shanghai, there was a foreign man lost at MRT station who cannot speak Chinese. So I talked to that man in English and helped him to find his way. He was quite shocked that my English is so good, and with my help he knew the right direction and place that he wants to go. However, there is also weakness about my oral skill. Sometimes I speak with wrong grammar. Every ti...

“Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication”

Communication and critical thinking will have a big impact on my future role as a leader in the workplace. However, poor communication can bring huge losses to the company.  Firstly, poor communication will lead to a high cost in the company, for example, the misunderstanding between employees. Work tasks may not be clear among workers, in the end, the company has to pay extra time and money to cover the mistake. Poor employee engagement and attrition are other results of poor communication. If I am the leader, I will equip my employees with good communication skills in order to save time during the working process. Effective communication is the most crucial success factor in project management. Critical thinking is the engine that provides power for effective communication. It is the key tool to combine all the useful thoughts and ideas before we talk. If the leaders are able to talk effectively and think rationally, they are also able to know how to make the company have better ...

The Importance of communication skills for engineers

“Communication skills are an essential component in the education of engineering students to facilitate not just students’ education but also to prepare them for their future careers.”                                                            Marc Riemer, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University (2007) I think communication skills are essential because it allows students to get more information from the learning process. They are able to ask or discuss questions with others to have a better understanding. For future careers,  good communication skills will help engineering students to have good interactions with others. The ability of expressing thoughts in a clear way will help students to perform well in the job interview and get the job easier.
